This may be a bit off topic but . . . immagine Uncharted & Chaotic Space, Fog Of Wars, Map Makers, & Explorers
These proposed changes can bring some mystery to Eve and can allow new empires to better control their regions:
I think anything not in empire should be left unmapped. Next, create Chaotic Space areas where gate avaliability and routing through regions can change (wormholes can be a pain in the a** sometimes).
Systems need to be added to ones database through exploration and Chaotic Regions need to be updated often. A "Fog of War" will be around most of 0.0 space. BookMarks shouldn't work unless your database includes the section of space the map refers to.
Updates and maps can be obtained in one of three ways. First is to go through that system and explore it. This will work for regular non-dynamic regions. Second ways is if your empire or a friendly empire (you have high standing w/ them) controlls that region (established a POS or Sensor Array in each system) then you will have your maps updated constatly. The third way is to obtain the information from a One Time One Use map. Explorers will use a Stellar Charting skill to create system and region maps. Chaotic regions will require the explorer to have a Sensor Array placed in the region to constantly update maps. A person can only operate a finite number of Sensor Arrays. A POS, however, can be used to control Sensor arrays in nearby systems, thus extending the explorer's skills.
These maps can then be sold on the market as a One Time One Use update which will show the system's info on a person's world map. These one time use updates can be bought from Agents, The Market, or Map Makers. Updating Chaotic Space Maps will require a fee to be credited to the Explorers account. If the Explorer's Sensor Array is destoryed, however, the map goes down when the region mixes up again.
Further, only allow Players & Alliances with POSs and Sensor Arrays in a system to see what is in that system. A powerful enough array can be used by alliance members to see ship types, player names, locate ships, and even detect cloaked vessels. Explorers with Sensor Arrays can charge a fee to people who wish to use their Sensor Arrays. If someone wants to see if a route is clear or the position of an enemy, they will need to know the right people and be willing to pay the proper fee.
This would bring a new level of tactical placement of resources and information usage to wars. Chaotic Regions will be areas where Information is supreme. Hunting down sensor arrays and putting them up will be a new profession. People will have to pay for maps or hire a guide to take them through a region of chaotic space. It will create a new profession and a new way of working our way through Eve.
